Avoam was established by Bishop Joseph Kobo in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa to reach out to the poor. Joseph is Nelson Mandela's nephew and was also a freedom fighter against the Apartheid government in the 1960's. The church has trained up hundreds of community workers throughout the district and we have sent portable players and discs in the local Xhosa language for them to use. Joseph's church members have also provided the translations and recordings for the lessons, so it is a real partnership.
